Our History

Mineral Deposits Engineering Department - the oldest department in the University - established in 1926.
It prepares bachelors and masters degree in "Mining Engineering"

Initially, in the first two years after the formation of our institution in 1921, faculties and departments as structural units existed.
At the beginning of the 1923-1924 school year was established mining department, which was the first dean Vasily Belov, who came to work in the Institute of Mining and Technical Inspection.
Mining faculty at first united all of these disciplines rock cycle for two specialties:

  • Mining Engineer exploitation of mineral deposits;

  • Mining Mechanical Engineer.

In 1926, the Department began to organize. The first was created Mineral Deposits Engineering Department and the first head became Dean of the Faculty of Mining prof. Vasily Belov.
By 1929, the department conducted all special discipline curriculum mining engineer its use. In 1929, it stood out from the mine construction department, and in 1939 and 1943 respectively department "Mine ventilation and mining rescue" and Surveying.
Much of the credit in the formation of the department after 1939 belongs to Alexander Naidish - The head of the department this year. His author of many scientific articles and training manuals.
During the Second War Department worked in Russia in Prokopyevsk city. There was headed by prof. Hertz Hoyhman, who came to us from the industry research institute.
After the liberation of Donetsk in 1943 and in the postwar years the Mineral Deposits Engineering Department has grown into a large highly qualified team of teachers and researchers.
In prof. Hertz Hoyhman after the war did much for the establishment of prof. Samuel Lipkovich, who was head five years. He - the famous scientist miner and high school teachers.
Within 50-60 years was written a number of books, textbooks, monographs, which brought a chair at the leaders in the mountain formation. During these years the department has grown numerically by mining faculty graduates who have a particular experience in the mines. All staff warmly remembered department associate professor Andrey Nowicki, a person whom they found a benevolent mentor and friend.
During these years defended doctoral A. Naydysh, S. Lipkovich, N. Zhizlov, K. Sapitskiy, M. Zborschik, S. Ilenko.
In 1971, the Mineral Deposits Engineering Department released new department - "Geomechanics".
In 1998, the department established a new department "Production Management", due to the fact that the faculty have new profession (management-mining, economics-mining).
From 1971 to 1999 the department was headed doctors of science, professor Sapytskyy Konstantin.
In September 1999 the department is headed by doctors of science, professor Nykolay Kasyan.
In order to meet the wishes of producers, since 1999, the department began taking students on specialization "Open pit mining."
The first issue of mining engineers took place in 1924; in subsequent years, the number of mining engineers produced continuously increased until 1993 and then decreases due to the demands of production.
The chair has trained more than thirteen thousand mining engineers.
Several were students of full time study in Mining and Metallurgical Academy in Krakow (Poland).
High level of training of students enrolled at the department confirmed that over the past 15 years, they are winners and winners competitions specialty RRKK.
The restructuring of mining specialties intended to give our graduates more opportunities for employment in Ukraine and foreign mining countries.
Since its organization department staff published more than 30 books and manuals.
Many books were original and one of a kind.
So books edited by prof. G. Hoyhmana "Analysis of the development of coal deposits of the Donets Basin" (1950) and "books of problems in underground mining of coal deposits" (1951), which went through 5 editions later, and books edited by prof. A. Naydysh "Dissection and preparation of coal seams" (1963) and prof. S. Lipkovich "Fundamentals of coal mine" for many years been the methodological basis for formulating and solving problems of mining across the former Soviet Union and Ukraine.
Text published in recent years, edited by prof. D. Dorokhov "Technology of underground reservoir of mineral deposits" (1997 and 2005) and prof. I. Yarembash "Production processes in longwall coal mines" (1999 and 2007) differ in that the presentation of the material is constructive rather than descriptive and can solve mining tasks in accordance with regulations adopted by the coal industry.
Since that time, the department staff made a great amount of research on economic and fiscal issues, which allowed for the coal industry to develop a range of advanced methods and technologies of extraction and preparatory work.
Prof. S. Lipkovich first time in domestic practice proposed a new method of minefield - pohorizontnoho, which is widely used in the mines of Donbass and now.
Prof. N. Zhizlov and D. Dorokhov proposed and tested in practice the system design abrupt outburst diagonal seams bruises, which reduces the likelihood of sudden reductions in stope.
Under the guidance of prof. K. Sapitskiy were developed and tested in the mine under a new flowsheet lonely dredging coal using skreperostruhov.
As a result of research at the department prepared and defended 21 doctoral and 167 candidate dissertation (including 18 - experts from foreign countries - Poland, Syria, Vietnam, Benin, Nigeria), published 13 books, received more than 170 patents for inventions and patents.

Mineral Deposits Engineering Department - the oldest department of the university,
but young in their plans!
